Tom Hanks Typewriter App for iPad

Old Typewriter

Tom Hanks has made it well known that he's one of the few remaining typewriter diehards, but today he's taking that passion digital. He's releasing an iPad app called Hanx Writer that recreates the typewriter experience on a tablet: keys clack, the paper moves side-to-side, and new sheets need to be rolled in each time you start a page.

"Hanx Writer is just my little gift to the future Luddite hipsters of the world," Hanks tells USA Today.

Hanks' app does make some updates for the modern age, adding in impressive new technologies like a "delete" key — though those who want the true experience can set it to just cross out unwanted marks with Xs instead. Hanks created the app in collaboration with the agency Hitcents.

A Casual Relationship Guide for Men

Remember that language has "registers" and people know how to use different registers (even if they don't know that they know this).

People speak differently when they are talking to their boss or their lover or a little child. It's easy and natural to switch registers, and you can't use the wrong register in the wrong place — talk to your boss like your lover. It would be disrespectful. Each register has appropriate uses and environments.

Casual Dating

A. The Difference

Academic communication requires you to show that you are intelligent and organized. You are showing that you can write well and spell well. The grammar is more formal, and you are being judged (graded) according to how well you have mastered this register.

B. Too Soon

When you meet someone online, you generally feel less inhibited than you would if you met him or her in person.

This is because you feel safer and more anonymous. There is less at stake. You are distanced from the impact of your words. As a result, you might say or write things to a new cyber-acquaintance that you would not say to someone face to face.

It's just part of being successful in that environment.
